Rahul Navin, ED Director, given one-year extension by Centre till August 2027
The central government has decided to extend the tenure of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Director Rahul Navin by one year, extending his working period till August 2027. According to an order issued on August 8, 2026, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the extension of Rahul Navin, IRS (IT:93074), for one year beyond August 13, 2026, until August 13, 2027. The extension allows him to continue in service beyond his scheduled superannuation date of July 31, 2027. It states that his tenure will continue until August 13, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Director Shakeel Noorani, who directed films like Joru Ka Ghulam and Bade Dil Wala, has been arrested by the Malvani Police in Mumbai in connection with an alleged rape and sexual assault case filed by a 33-year-old female actor. He is in police custody until August 12.

The standoff between the Jharkhand government and protesting students over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) continues, with no immediate resolution in sight after talks failed to produce an agreement. On Sunday, protesting students announced that they would hold a peaceful ‘Vidhan Sabha gherao’ (Assembly march) on Monday and appealed to students from across the state to join the protest, despite the government’s claim that they accepted 98 per cent of their demands.
